LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR BRYANT ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS TO PEER

2.4.08 - Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant announced today from the Senate chamber his appointments to the Joint Committee on Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review (PEER).

Lieutenant Governor Bryant appointed the following Senate members to PEER:

· Congressional District 1 – Senator Merle Flowers, District 19

· Congressional District 2 – Senator Gary Jackson, District 15

· Congressional District 3 – Senator Cindy-Hyde Smith, District 39

· Congressional District 4 – Senator Sid Albritton, District 40

· Senator at Large – Senator Sampson Jackson, District 32

· Senator at Large – Senator Terry Brown, District 17

· Senator at Large – Senator Nolan Mettetal, District 10

“As former State Auditor I know firsthand how important effectiveness and accountability in State Government are,” Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant stated. “I believe the Senators that I have chosen will represent us well and will help continue the fight for a more fiscally responsible state government.”

PEER is a standing committee of the Mississippi Legislature that was created in 1973 and is tasked with providing information on Mississippi state government. Analyzing state agency programs and operations are just a hint of the many tasks for which PEER is responsible. Ultimately, PEER aids in making state government more effective, efficient and accountable.

About Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant

Phil Bryant was sworn-in as Mississippi’s Lieutenant Governor on January 10, 2008 after capturing 59% of the vote in the November election. He started his career in public service as a Hinds County Deputy Sheriff and was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives from District 59 in Rankin County in 1992 and re-elected in 1995. Bryant was appointed State Auditor by the late Governor Kirk Fordice and re-elected overwhelmingly in 1999 and without opposition in 2003.
