Kelley Williams
Surrogate for Governor Haley Barbour

Bio: J. Kelley Williams graduated from Georgia Tech in 1956 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.  He worked at Continental Oil Co. before entering the United States Air Force. He served three years active duty, was discharged a First Lieutenant, served five years in the inactive reserve, and was discharged a Captain. He graduated from Harvard Business School in 1962. He joined First Mississippi Corporation in 1967 and became president in 1971; serving as CEO until 2002 when the company, which had changed its name to Chemfirst, was acquired by DuPont. In addition to his investment and financial experience as CEO First Mississippi, he has been an active private investor for over 30 years.

Summary: Today in Mississippi, the energy sector is experiencing an unprecedented level of investment and interest. Economic growth, vast natural resources, and an improved business climate under the leadership of Governor Haley Barbour has resulted in Mississippi emerging as an energy leader among states. As our nation continues to face energy challenges, Mississippi is preparing to be a reliable producer of energy.

Dr. B.K. Hodge

Bio: B. K. Hodge is Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University where he serves as the TVA Professor of Energy Systems and the Environment and is a Giles Distinguished Professor and a Grisham Master Teacher.  He has written three textbooks and developed six new courses and conducted research in the thermal sciences.  Dr. Hodge is the author of more than 170 conference papers and journal articles.  He is a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Education and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Summary: Many of the manufacturers have expressed an interest in energy assessments for their businesses. MSU provides a service to make energy conserving recommendations for Mississippi Manufacturers. MSU is also doing major research in renewable energy from biomass, especially pine trees. The current research and potential economic development opportunities will be highlighted.


Mississippi State University
Dr. W. Glenn Steele

Bio: Glenn Steele is a Mississippi State University (MSU) William L. Giles Distinguished Professor and the Bobby Shackouls Professor in Mechanical Engineering.  He is currently serving as director of the MSU Energy Institute and interim director of the MSU Institute for Clean Energy Technology.  Dr. Steele also serves as co-director of the MSU Sustainable Energy Research Center, a research center focused on developing fuels from biomass and other waste products.  Dr. Steele is the author of two books, two book chapters, over 100 journal articles and conference papers, and is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
